Padmashree Dr.Mahipathi Madhwacharya Joshi was born in 1935 in Nimbal village in Bijapur district, Karnataka, India. M.M.Joshi got his graduation from Baroda and post-graduation from Bombay, had his training as Registrar in Surat and Bombay. He worked with notable Ophthalmic Surgeon in Bombay. This built-in him the confidence and an un-comparing attitude on quality. After a long thought, he decided to come to Hubli – Dharwad as his ‘Karma Bhumi’ – leaving lucrative offers from many corners. At this point of time perhaps he was the first postgraduate in Ophthalmology in the whole Karnataka. He was first to start exclusive ophthalmic hospital as a Consultant Doctor. It was a humble beginning, with the long struggle to establish. Gradually he became a legend for his hard work & quality services. His coming to Hubli Dharwad was a boon to the society. He is not only a good surgeon but also an Institution builder. Dr M. M. Joshi gets National Recognition. Dr M. M. Joshi, renowned Eye surgeon of Hubli has been awarded ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by All India Ophthalmological Society for the year 2013-14. Dr M. M. Vitreoretinal Services
Is the Director of clinical services and Head of Vitreoretinal services. He is the senior-most member of the Institute working since 1985. He has had a brilliant academic record during MBBS and MS and has had specialized training in the field of Vitreoretinal at Sankara Nethralay Chennai. He started the Vitreoretina department in 1986, the first in north Karnataka. The department serves the vitreoretinal patients of the entire northern districts of the state besides Goa and neighbouring Maharashtra. Dr.Guruprasad has performed over 25,000 Vitreoretinal surgeries besides several thousand cataract and other common anterior eye surgeries. His special areas of interest include Complex Retinal detachment, Diabetic retinopathy, Retinopathy of prematurity, Eye injuries besides other common diseases. Dr.Guruprasad has several research achievements to his credit which he has published and presented at various national and international conferences. His work has been recognized at national and international forums and duly awarded. He is the program director for the DNB post-graduate course under the National board of examinations and the vitreoretinal fellowship course affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. Besides charitable services within the hospital, Dr.Guruprasad has reached out to the poor in the form of eye camps and has ensured quality service to everyone. Dr R. Krishnaprasad is the head of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Glaucoma services in M. M. Joshi Eye Institute, a premier super-speciality Institute of Southern India. He has been at the forefront of Ophthalmic Education and has been spearheading the efforts of Post-Graduation Education and skill enhancement. Being the Best outgoing University student with 8 Gold Medals in Medical Graduation, he has completed his M. D. (Ophthalmology) from prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi with honours. He is the Director of Post Graduate Training and Fellowship programmes at M. M. Joshi Eye Institute, a niche area very close to his heart. He is the Deputy Director of Community Services and has been working tirelessly on pediatric community ophthalmology projects. Dr Krishnaprasad has undergone a fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology at Storm Eye Institute, Medical University of South Carolina USA. He has three International publications and Eight National publications in peer renewed journals. Dr Krishnaprasad R. has held many positions of responsibility in local, State and National Ophthalmic Associations. He is the member of South Zone in Academic and Research Committee of All India Ophthalmic Society for South India. Post-graduation Education has been the passion of Dr Krishnaprasad. He has been a Post Graduate Teacher for the last 23 years. His flagship PG program – ‘Eye to Eye with Examinations’ has been highly successful in orienting the exam going postgraduates for the ordeal of PG exams. He has been a member of the National Post Graduate Education Committee in the past and has been a regular Guest Faculty in all the National Level and State level postgraduate orientation programs. Ophthalmology Specialist
DR. SHRINIVAS JOSHI completed his M. S. Ophthalmology from 1N medical college, Belgaum. Later he received elective training in Vitreoretinal from Steve Charles Retina Institute, Memphis, USA. He completed his Surgical Fellowship in Vitreoretinal from University of Toronto, North America and was trained in pediatric retinal surgeries at Sick Kids hospital, Toronto. His areas of interest are artificial retina “Argus 2” the first US FDA approved Bionic Eye. He is one of the first Indian to be trained for artificial retinal implantation surgery under Dr Robert Devenyi at Toronto Western Hospital. He is the recipient of Senior Honor Award by American Society of retina specialists, Boston 2017. He has been awarded prestigious Rhett Buckler Oscar award by American Society retina specialists at Boston, Vancouver and Chicago for three consecutive years, which is a record in itself.He has been honoured with International Hero award by All India Ophthalmic Society in 2018 and 2019. He is a Peer reviewer for National and International journals including American Journal of Ophthalmology, Asia Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology and Indian Journal of Ophthalmology.
